The present writer has visited Senator Clark's new house on several occasions, and, therefore, a brief personal description 'ol some of its peculiarities and attractions may not be without interest. From the outside are would suppose that the house was finished, and in fact, the shell is quite complete; but within ibere is still a tremendous amount of decora tive and other work to be done. occupying some time in the tar distant future. So pleased was the millionaire with the appearance of his last resting-place that he declared if ever be decided to erect a mansion in New York the same firm should have the contract. True to his promise Mr. Chirk, in 1898, communicated with the firm in question and instructed them to draw up plans for a house which should hold its own with others in Millionaires. Row. He gave them carle blanche, and the builders determined that the new mansion should eclipse, anything else in New York or any other city,

When Mr. Clark- received the plans, he was on the eve of aniling for Europe, so he slipped them into his pocket with the intention of showing them to Henri Deglane, the greatest architect in France, M. Degline approved of

the plans, and on his return to America the

Senator told the builders to go ahe d. The plans, however, provided for a much larger house than could be built on the land then.

ON MONDAY,

the 11th day of June, 1906, at 3 P.M., at their Sales Rooins, No. 8, Des Voeux Road Central,

The bronze used in the constructionaf this palatial hoy e comes from Mr. Clark's own sundries, for soon after the foundation-stone was laid the millionaire, again on the advice of Mr. Hull, bought out the Henry Bonnard Bronze Company for a' nominal sum, and not only cast his own tronzes at the works, but also entered into competition with other firms in supply the trade, and cleared a profit of £10,000 on the three years' workings. Raving, therefore, purchased his own stone quarry and his own brunze foundry, Mr. Clark, on his own initiative this tige, erected this own marble situate at Victoria, in the Colony of Hongkong, factory, at

£30,000, at Ravenswood, and there all the sculpture for the new mansion has been designed and executed.

C

The modelling has been done by a famous artist named Philip Martiny, and carved by the innst expert craftsmen. Moreover, the Copper used comes from Senator Clark's.own mines, and the timber from his own lands.
