TSANG Hing, a ricksha coone, was charged by Sergt. Gordon, before Mr. C. A. D. Melbourne on Tuesday, with administering morphine to one Tsang Ho, without its being duly piesenbed by a medical practitioner; and also with being in possession of a quantity of morphia, at West Point, to-day. The defendant denied that the material found in the bottle was morphine. His Worship said he was of opinion that it was morphine, and remanded the case to allow the drug to be analysed, bail $50.
IT is with regret that we have to announce the death, which took place at the Government Civil Hospital, on Wednesday alternoon, of Mr. Denny O'Keeffe, one of the sanitary 'inspectors. A FATAL accident occurred at West Point on the night of the 9th instant, in which a gal, aged 10 years of age, lost her life. WONG CHEONG, a passenger from Canton this morning, and now known as the "handruff Ting." figured in the dock at the Police Court this morning, before Mr. F. A. Hazeland, and grinned as he remembered the almost successful tick he played on board the Canton steamer Kinihan early this morning. The charges against Wong were: Firstly, un lawfully attempting to pick the pockets of Po Tak Chen, a fisherman, on board the said ship, and also with stealing two pairs of handcuffs, the property of the Hongkong, Canton and Macao Steamboat Co, valued at $7, this morn- ing
To this Wong pleaded not guiltys and averred that it was his intention of returning the handcuffs. The particulars of the case were as Follows:-Just before the s.s. Kinskan had signed this port, Wong Chenng, during the small hours this morning, was seen to make an attempt to rob a passenger, and he was caught by the steamer's watchman. Wong not a thrashing from the other passengers, and was handcuffed with two pairs of handcuffs to the stanchion of the boat. He was left there, and after the Kinshan had arrived at her wharf, the watchman returned to release Wong to hand him over to a policeman, when, to his astonishment, he discovered that his man had fled, taking away the wristlets. An alarm was raised and a policeman captured Wong run. aing down the road with the bandcufft still antuched to his right wrist. The coolic was immediately removed to the station and char ged.
