SCHEME BEFORK THE DIET.

The Railway Nationalisation Bill has at last been submitted to the Diet. The Bill provides that ail railways used for general traffic shall become State property, with the exception of such lines as only afford local communication. The following thirty-two private railways will be purchased during the next six years: Hok- kaido Colliery, Hokkaido, Nippon, Canyatsu, Hokuyetro, Kobu, Kawagoya Sobu, Narita, Sobu, Jabu, Buso, Zuro, Mito, Napao, Chuyet su, Toyokawa, Kwansai, Bisel. Omi, Sangu, Kyoto, Nankai, Nishinari, Koya, Kanan, Han- Saku, Sanyo, Chugoku, Tokushima, Kyushu and Hakata Bay. The line of any private rail- way company which is not actually opened for traffic on the day on which the law is promul. gated may also be purchased. The date of purchase of the lines will be announced by the Government,
