"PRINCESS LOTO"
AT THE THEATRE ROYAL
There can be but one opinion among all those who visited the Theatre Royal last night to witness the performance of Princesi Telo by the Hongkong Amateur Dramatic Club, and that is that we have every reason to be proud of the possibilities and capabilities of
our local amateur dramatic talent.

Masters Bullock and Martin made two bright little pages in altend. ance upon Princess Toto. together MA E W. Mitchell, Mr. Donman Fuller and their supporters are to be congratulated on whit must be pronounced a distinct success. The scenery was very tasteful & the costumes de signed by Miss Wallace dainty; the singing, both solo and chorus, more than pleasing while the local quips and topical hits tickled the audience every time.

The international conterence to consider the * affairs of Moracco was originally announced as likely to meet at Algeciras, Spain, on January, toth. A later However, sets the date of meeting for Monday, January 16th. The conference has been called, of course, at the instance of Germany, as a re- sult of the Kaiser's protest against the Anglo French treaty, which practically transferred the control of the Sultanate's affairs to France, on the ground that the interests of the republic were greater there-than those of any other European nation.
German intervention gave rise at first to considerable friction. between Paris and Berlin, which was
not improved by the British Government's declaration that it would stand pat with whatever course. France decided to pursue. Then came the resignation of Delcasse from the Foreign

it is only necessary for us to tell our readers that the tile rôle was in the hands of Mrs.
But, after the contention between the French and German Governments had been amicably settled, sensationalists busied them- selves spreading abroad alarmist reports concerning the possibility of international trouble growing out of the coming con. ference, all of which had a tendency to create a certain feeling of uneasiness at the European capitals. The bourses were naturally sensitive to the influence of these reports. Doubiless they were circalated for that purpose, and those who were instrumental in setting them afloat manipulated the masket fluctuations for their own prufi. Aside from these sensational re- parts there has been nothing in the conduct of Germany toward France, since the agreement to hold an international conference was.reuch- ed, to indicate that its deliberations would have any other than pacific results. Stewart), a potentate who is weighted down with the terrible fear that he may be made ridiculous in the eyes of other nations, and advises all and sundry attached to his Court to maintain their. dignity and self-respect; and the comical Spectacle of his all-pervading anxiety to that intent, when his daughter's bridegroom-elect at the end of three days' waiting still remains absent, must be seen to be appreciated, for it cannot adequately be described. As Zipeter, the Prime Minister, Mr. H. M. Kendall was quite at home, as was only to be expected by those who have seen him on the "boards before, and his pleasing diplomacy," with the taray bridegroom, Prince Caramel, on which he is so self-gratulatory. is truly great.
