The Secretary of the Navy asked him why he Doris, for Shanghai,
Had "butted in" and his reply was that "blood
is thicker than wales" and the same phrase is for Bangkok,
applicable to-day to all relations between Bri tishers and mericans, as we are of the same race, have the came trditions and both our nations are lovers of liberty. "Gentlemen," the speaker continued, "on behalf of the chiefs and warrant officers bid you welcome and I pre- pose that we all rise and drink in the health of the man who is loved by his loyal subjects and admired by all foreigners-the. King of Great Britain."
After the applause with which the toast was received had subsided, Gunner Clark of the Royal Navy, rose to respond. He told how the British reciprocated the cordial feeling shown by the Americans and how proud the mother country was of her great offspring, and spoke of the deep admiration of the Blish nation for the president of the United States. He pro posed the health of Fresident Roosevelt. which was drunk amidst enthusiastic ebtern and the rendering of "The Star Spangled Banner" by the orchestra,
