A NEW CODE
HONGKONG
We have received, from the llongkong,| Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same an those at present in, use at Shanghai, and will I be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Polat for the information of mastors of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces- sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows

LOCAL STORM-WARNINGS.
The Colony itself is warned of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gun placed at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever a strong gale.of wind is expected to blow here.
