EMPRESS EUGENIE'S FETE DAY
a To-day is the fête day of the Empress Fugénie. It was precisely thirty-six years ago when the last of the splendid fêtes was given by the Imperial Court, then at Com piègne. No one imagined, observes a writer in the PMG, that a year thence the music and the ravelry would be replaced by the sights and sounds of war. The young Prince Imperial, then thirteen years of age, was. very fond of dancing, and in his honour a number of charming young girls of the best families were invited. Among those who took part in the fates, which, extended to four days, was the wife of Marthal Bazaine, the Marquise de Galliffet, and Mme. Canro bert-historic names indeed. The Princess Mathilde, who died in Paris last year, was associated with the Imperial couple in the entertainment of the guests, which was on a remarkable scale of magnificence."

Then again, one sees more in reality than in Imagination, these agonies unduly prolonged by the frequent stoppages en route occasioned by the advent of an electric car, and also telepathically passes in review the oft-repeated jarring of fractured limbs that occurs as often as the ambulance a twisted and turned from one The Right Rev.
