"HIS HISTORY IN HONOKONG,
We regret to learn the news, which reached Hongkong by telegram to-day, of the death of Mr. F. R. Helilins, C.M.G., who was for thirty years closely identified with the public life and business canceros of llongkong, and whose are is associated with all that has tended to invigorate and give stimulus to the prosperity, of the Colony. Me. Emmanuel Raphael Belllios was bom at Calcutta in the year that Queen Victoria as- cended the throne. His father wat & merchant in India, and his aducation was gained at | Montague's 3 chool ́in Cálcutta. In 189i, when he was as years of age, he came to Hanghang and engaged, in the opfum trade, in which he proved a very successful merchant and amás- sed a fortune which is computed to run into the millions. In August 1881, Mr. Belition was appointed a member of the Legislative Coun cil and remained one of the unofficial advisers. of the Government until his departure from the Colony in 1900.
