had been laid against him by the medical officer in charge of the Government Civil Hospital, in respect of a cheque for $20, and Mr. J. W. Osborn of the Kowloon Hotel, in of one for 514. The charge preferred respect by the Government Civil Hospital was, how- ever, withdrawn. Defendant pleaded guilty to all the charges, and had nothing to say. He was sentenced to an aggregate of six months' hard labour.

This would be the value if they were perfectly wound, and allowing the profit at about 30 per cent...

In the early hours of yesterday moming while Chinese constable Lai Kam Fuk was patrolling the barbour in a police pinnace he noticed some small boats with bags of coal aboard creeping along and evidently anxious to avnid attracting attention. He made for the nearest hast, which immediately hastened away, hu to i stern chase the pinnace

Ile was promptly seized and thrown into the water, and as the boat people com menced to strike him with bamboos and boat hooks the constable dived, and on coming to the surface, drew his revolver and fired to frighten the assailants. Hospital, but succumbed last night. The other boatman has been charged with attempt. ed murder of the constable, and was placed before Mr. F. A. Hazeland this morning. He pleaded not guilty, and the case was remanded illl Friday next.
