VEREIGHT MARKET,

Fa their freight circular of 26th August, Messrs. Lamke & Rogge write The deplor able monotony, which has been reigning over the coastal markets for some time now, has in no way been relieved during the fortnight under ravlax, The subjoined list of fixtures exem plifies once more the entire suspension of chartering in the majority of trades and the limited outlet for disengaged tonnage in the fow directions where demand does show litelf. Opinions are diverging, but the belief is a strong ons that, if any thorough resuscitation is to take place at all in freighting markets, the chance would entirely rest with a speedy ar rangement of peace between Japan and Rússla, it being thought that the finish of the war will at least for a time prove beneficial to Eastern shipping generally and in particular to the now daily increasing number of boats that, for wast of employment of any description, are finding themselves in dire straits and simply compelled to lay up.

Saigon/Hongkong.Whilst natives at the former port are now prepared to make certain concessions in their prices, and although feeble signs of stiffening are during the last few days perceptible in the focal rice market, the latter does not warrant a sufficiently material advance as yet to permit, of much business.. Rate of freight may be quoted at 10 to 11 cents, which is still anything but remunerative.

From Saigon to Philippines a couple of Axtures are on record at the reduced rate of 25 cents per picul to one port. No more tonnage appears to be wanted at the close.

A charter has been done from floilo to Yoke

No claims will be admitted, after the goodshama at 30 cents, and there is no further de-

ing mora. But they have their individual sto ries, anda Bris. On of Bristol's quainters sights fol newspaper prints a most interesting talk with the mother of one of them, a Mr Ruth Bar- nett, which pleasingly illustrates their joys and pains, thoir welfare and their times of sudoris. "About a year ago, my little Bridget, then eleven years old, was taken with St. Vitus dance," said Mrs, Barnett. It was so bad that if she sat on a sofa or chair the wriggled down to the fleer. I did not like to take her out, for people's attention was attracted in the street by her. She would clutch hold of my arms and almost drag me about.

Uniforma of the Little Red Maida.

"Bridget was at school at the time, and the mistress of the Red Maids sent for me to fetch her home. Thers are clever doctors connected with the school, but they all thought Bridget ton ili to stay.

"I took her to the Bristol General Hospital, 'where she was an in-pat ́ent for fourteen weeks. The doctors showed a kindly interest in her, and told me that not only had she St. Vitos' dance but her heart was also affected. She became so weak and thin that her life was des- paired of. But the doctors continued to give ber the best possible care, and, thanks to their kindness, Bridget was able to be removed to the Queen Victoria Convalescent Home, where she remained for three weeks.

"After this she went back to school; but the 18t. Vitus' dance returning, tha was sent to Weston-super-Mare for a month. Again ibe went back to School, but after a time was worse than ever. The Matron sent Bridget home saying they could not possibly keep her.

"Having read in Newspapers of many corci by Dr. Williams' pink pills, I decided to let Bridger (ty them. A remarkable change soon took place. After the first bottle she was much better. She took a second bottle and part of a third, and by that time was quite cured. She His now back at school, bonnier and brighter iban ever, as healthy as any child in the school, It was whilst my daughter was regaining her. strength that the St, Vitus' dance gradually left- ber. The ban never had a day's illness since. ¿'As I foit tired and worn out myself I finished my daughter's third, bottle of pilla, and they' did me great good. I could work twice a well

after them.?
