Before Mr. F. A. Hareland this morning the case against Aaron Ellis, charged with the manslaughter of Gunner Richard Sampson, Was resumed, Miz F. B. L. Howley, Crown Sobic tor, prosecuted, and Mr. P. W. Goldring, of Messrs 1tration, fett and Goldring, defend ed. Majir Parry, R. A., watched the case on behalf of the military authorities.

On the 16th of July defendant first visited the Grill Room for the first time at to p.m. He did not know whether defendant took his dinner there at 8 pm, with two girls, witness only went to the Grill Room at 9 m. for duty. He was prepared to swear that defendant came there at to p.m, and remained until 11.30p.m. The girls let at rpm. or a few minutes after. He was not confusing two days; he remembered the day on account of a per-months' sight farmance at Kowloon, and was quite sure that in Sunday the 16th. He did not know whether defendant and the girls went to the Grill Room one of the girls went with Mrs. Slater to the Metropole Hotel that day. Witness had been hard at work all day arranging things for the performance but he was not at all sleepy when Sovereign he went to the Grill Room. He had only one liqueur glass of brandy all day. Defendant. and the girls came back together for the last Ime at one o'clock. The women did not go into the house, they stood in the verandah.
Re-examined by Mr. Bowley: About half an hour after midnight, defendant was sitting in the Grill Room, and the two girls came and called him out, and they all left together. They cante back about 1 a.m, and entered the room, the defendant being about three minutes later, and they only remained two or three minutes. it was on the last occasion of the defendant's visit to the Grill Room that he said to Mr. Slater"I gave him one, and he has had enough."
