ROBERTSON, QUAY, SUBSIDES,

An alarming subsidence on the north bank of the Singapore River took place this morning, way the Singapore Frei Prix of mist inst., by which a greater part of Robertson Quay is sunk below river level and three large godowns are placed in imminent danger of collapse...

Robertson Quay is just above Palau Saigon bridge and nearly facing the Abattoirs. Fair and firm to all appearance, the readway bas bome many a bullock-cart load of produce and importe to the turga godowns on its banke. Now there is

These buildings are in imminent danger of collapsing into the river: True there is a fragment of the wall left standing, but below the cracked surface of the roadway is to be seen the black core which, forms so much of the river bed of the Singa-" pore and other strdams in the place-a fathom- less morass of stinking soft stuff, that even as far inland as Kim Seng Bridge, goes down for over a hundred and fifty feet. The finest go- down is that owned by Kwong Hang & Co. of 19 Market-st. It is a two-storied, solidly built erection, with tile roof, and superior in looks to any in the neighbourhood. · It is separated to be and as the tide is rising the water is flow. from the river by the place where the road used

There can be no permanent success of any kind based on dishonesty or deception. There never was, and never will be. The men who try that are simply fools and soon come to aro, nevertheless, afraid to buy certala grief-as they deserve. Now many penops

is as safe and genuine an articls to purchase as flour, silk or colton goods from the mills of manufacturers with a world-wide reputation We could but afford to exaggerate its qualities or misrepresent it in the least; and it is not necessary, It is palatable as honey and con- tains the nutritive and curative properties of Pure Cod Liver Oil, extracted by us from fresh cod livers, combined with the Compound Syrup of Hypophosphiles and the Extracts of Malt and Wild Cherry; and how valuable such blending of these important medicinal agentá must be is plain to everybody. It is beyond price in Anemia, Insomnia, Weakness and lack of Nervous Tone, Poor Digestion, Wasting Diseases, La Grippe, Lung Troubles and Blood Impurities. Science can furnish nothing better -perhaps nothing so good. Dr. W. H. Dalfo, of Capada, says: "I have used it in my practice and take pleasure in recommending it ny, a valuable toale and reconstructive." - It is a remedy that can afford to appeal to its record and represents the science and knowledge of bright and aggressive medical investigation. Effective from the first dose. "You cannot be disappointed in it," Like all good things it is imitated. Sold by chemists throughout the world.
