An outbreak of fre was reported on board the steamer Spitkend, chartered by the P. & O morning, reports the japan Chronicle, when the vessel was at anchor in Kobe harbour. Effort to extinguish the flames being unavailing, the authorities on shore on being notified moved the steamet outside the harbour limits, where the cargo that was burning smouldered throughout yesterday and defied efforts to extinguish it. It was hoped that the outbreak would be completely extinguished some time last night. No explanation has been obtained of the origin of the fire.
