NEW CODE.

We have received from Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong, on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in uze at Shanghai, and will be boisted on the mast beside the time-bali at Kowloon Polat for the information of masters of vassels loaving the port. They do not neces sarily imply that bad weather is expected....... The signals are as follows
A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony,
Acone point upwards and drum belów In-- dicates a typhoon to the North-East of 'the Colony,
A drum indicates a typhoon to the East of: the Colony,
A cone paint downwards and drum below indicates a typhoon to the South-East of the Colony.
A cone point downwards indicates a typhoon, to the South of the Colony.
A cone point downwards and ball below. indicates a typhoon to the South West of the Colony,
A ball indicates a typhoon to the West of the Colony,
A cone point upwards and ball below indicates a typhoon to the North-West of the Colony.
Red Signals indicate that the centre is. believed to be more than 300 miles away from the Colony,
Black Signals indicate that the centre is believed to be less than 300 miles away.from the Colony.
The above signals will, as heretofore, be hoisted only when typhoons exist-in-such poils. tions or are moving in such directions that in formation regarding them is considered to be of importance to the Colony or to shipping loay, ing the harbour.
NIGHT SIGNALS.
Two lanterns hoisted vertically indicate bad- weather in the Colony and that the wind is expected to veer.
