This great line of granite is the source of practically all the vast alluvial deposits of tin which are found in Siam and the British and Dutch East Indian possessions. this respect as either the British or Dutch, and the deposits are very widely distributed. Of the Siamese possessions in the Malay Penin sala, tin is at the presant time being worked in the following provinces: East Coast-Rat buri, Bangiaphan, Langsuan, Chaiya, Bandon, Lakon, Jalor, Rangeh Rahman, Kelantan, and Tringanu West Coast-Kra, Renong,, Takua. par, Pange; Takuatung, Paket, Traug, Stul, Pertis, Kedah.

In some of the provinces the works are small and unimportant: but the total annual

tons, of a value of about £600,000 taking the productions is little short of five thousand long

price of tin at £120 per long ton.

Generally speaking fall the mining is in the hands of Chinese, the labour is Chinese, and the smelting is locally by Chinese methods. The only exception to these generalisations are that one British and one Dutch company are working in Kedah, an American company is making a small commencement in Bangta- phan, and a British smelting company is e- tablishing an ore-buying agency in Puket. Tho number of Siamese and Malays engaged in tin-mining is very small.
