**At 5 o'clock on the mon ag of September 3rd, the army resumed the attack on the Russian position at the southern extreme of Liaoyang. The enemy's fire had not abated late in the afternoon, but our artillery ammoni tion had ran short, and we had little prospect of getting an immediate supply. To remain longer exposed to the fire of over fifty guns at short range was only to increase our casualties. The column therefore charged at the point of the bayonet at 6 o'clock against the fort on Yuifanmyo, where the Russian fro.was.weaker than from other positions. The left column had approached close to the Russian forts, and repeatedly sought a suitable place for making a charge, but without result, as

In their report, dated 23rd instant, Mosury, Cawasjes, Fallanjes & Co. write Since the issue of our last circular dated the 9th inst, our Vam Market during the first part of the

fortnight ruled steady, and in some threads of No. 10, an advance of about a dollar was noticeable. During the period the importers remained firm and asked for higher rates, as the prices ruling here are far below those of Bombay, Latterly, the advices of rain in India, and the daily rise in the rate. Fxchange, made importers more impatient to quit, and the Chinese dealers taking advantage of this opportunity asked for, at a decline of about a dollar on last Mail's quotations, which was easily responded. A very limited business is done in No, 207, at a declina of from fifty cents to a dollar per bale on last mail's prices. Nos. 16, and 12s, are saleablo at current quotations. A very good demand, as usual, of No. 101, in noticeable, and the prices in some instances where the thread is in meagre supply show a
