A European who left Port Arthur on the 29th ul. and arrived at 1 dngchou states that the Japanese troops occupied two forts at Lanlung- tou on the 27th ult.

They retired on the 29th, when the Russians re-occupied the forts, but the Japanese seized them again, taking a roundabout way from the west, and cutting off the retreat of the Rus- sians, many of whom in the confusion were drowned in the sea.
