*NEW CODE.

We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological signals which comes into force at Hongkong ou New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and wil be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball a Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces- sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:-

LOCAL STORM-WARNIMOS,

The Colony itself is warned of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gus placed at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever a strong gale of wind is expected to blow here.
