We have received from the Hongkong
Observatory a new onde of meteorological signals which comes inin force at Hongkong
on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present it us at Shanghai, and will be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Paint Ew the information of masters

The Colony itself is warned of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gun placed at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever a strong gale of wind is expected to blow here.

The following report is from Mr. J. I. Plum mer, Chief Assistant of the Hongkong Obser-
vatory —
On the 9th at 11,35 a.m. The barometer has risen in Japan and N. China and has fallen slightly in S, China and in the Philippines.
The greatest pressure is found in SW. Japan and the least in the China Sea. It is also low in the Pacific.
Gradients are slight on the China Coast and light variable winds will prevail in the For mosa Channel and light S to SW. winds in the northern part of the China Sea.
