As to the exact course and nature of the disease, however, considerable doubt exists at present, and until the Govern ment bacteriological and other examinations which are being carried out by Mr. Faishaw and Dr. Finlayson have been concluded, there will remain some doubt.
The sickness has occurred in widely separat- [633 ed areas, and under apparently no particular conditions, though it is noticeable that it has attacked better class animals more than in- ferior kinds.

facts. There are thousands of girls of this kind anywhere between childhood and young fadyhood. Disease finds most of its victims among them. They are too weak and frail to resist. Some of them are passing through the mysterious changes which lead up to maturity and need especial watchfulness and care. Alas, how many break down at this critical period; the story of such losses is the saddest in the history of home.
