We have received from the Hongkong Observatory a new code of meteorological
BUTCHER MEAT,
signals which comes inte force at Hongkong Beef sidoin & prime cut-Mei Lung Fa
on New Year's Day. They are the same as those at present in use at Shanghai, and will; be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball at Kowloon Point for the information of masters of vessels leaving the port. They do not neces- sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:~~
A cone point.upwards indicates a typhoon lo the North of the Colony,
A cone point upwards (and drum below in- dicates a typhoon to the North-East of the Colony.
A drum indicates a typhoon to the East of
the Colony.
A cone point downwards and drum below indicates a typhoon to the South-East of the Colony,
A cone point downwards indicates a typhoon to the South of the Colony.

The signals are repeated on the flagstaff of the Godown Company at Kowloon, and also, by day only, at the Ilarbour Office and on # M's Receiving Ship.
LOCAL STORM-WARNINGS,
The Colony itself is warned of approaching typhoons by means of the Typhoon Gun placed at the food of the mast, which is fired whenever a trong gale of wind is expected to blow here.
