FOUNDED IN HONOUR. No doubt you have seen in the papers such announcements as this-concerning some medicins or other:-"If, on trial, you write that this medicine has done you no good we will refund your money."--Now, we have never had reason to speak in that way concerning the remedy named in this article. In a trade extending throughout the world, nobody has ever complained that our medicine has failed, or asked for the return of his money. The public never grumbles at honestly and skillfully made bread, or at a medicine which really and actually does what it was made to do. The foundations of

Chinese annual ancestral Tomb-Worshipping holidays, which began on the 5th init, und which will continue for nearly a month, took a lot of Chinese dealers to their native villages, which also accounts for the slackness of demand during the last part of the fortnight. A moderate business is reported in No, hos, and 161, and are not much inquired for. As usual the demand ran on Nos. 12r. and ios.; Nos. 6e, and 8s. remain neglected. The market closes steady. Sales during the past fortnight comprise of about 75 bales of No. 6.; 1,150 bales of No, to: 475 bales of No. 125.; 75 bales of 165.; and 125 bales of No. 20.; in all about 1,900 biles. Arrivals during the fortnight per stemmers Bengal, Lightning, langsang, Capri and Malta of about 17,000 bales. Shipments to Shanghai and the Northern Ports about 5,000 bales. WEEKLY SHARE REPORT.

In their repart dated 8th inst., Messra, Benjamin, Kelly and Potts write:-Since our last report, the market generally has improved and a considerable business has been transact ed, especially in Banks, Indos`and Sugars which show a substantial rise on the previous week's quotations.

Banks.-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have been in strong request throughout the week and have been taken off the market at rapidly rising rates up to $645; closing firm. The sterling quotation has further advanced to 63 in London. Nationals remain steady at $358.

Marine Insurances-Unions have found buyers at the improved rate of $475, and more shares can be placed. China Traders have been disposed of at $57. There is no alteration in the other stocks under this heading.

Fire Insurances.-Hongkong Fires have been bought, and close with further buyers at $285. Sales of China Fires have been made at $83. and more shares are wanted.

Cotton (Indian)-Arrivals about 2,650 bales. ONE OFFICE ROOM on second floor. Extreme rates asked by the importers caused a slackness in demand, and only a small parcel of about 45 packages changed hands at $33 per picul. The unsold stock is estimated at about 3,700 bales.

Opium(Malwa) -Short shipments from Bom- bay, higher rates ruling there, and the heavy decline in Exchange had not the desired effect on the market.
