OGICAL

have received from the Hongk Observatory a new, code of meteorologi signals which comes into force at Hongkong on New Year's Day. They are the same na those at present in use at Shanghai, and will be hoisted on the mast beside the time-ball a Kowloon, Point for the information of mastera of vessels leaving the port. They do not secos- sarily imply that bad weather is expected. The signals are as follows:-

A cone point upwards indicates a typhoon to the North of the Colony.

A cone point upwards and drum below. in- dicates a typhoon to the North-East of the Colony.

A drum indicates a typhoon to the East of the Colony.

A cone point downwards and drum below indicates a typhoon to the South-East of the Colony.

A cone point downwards indicates a typhoon to the South of the Colony,

A cone point downwards and ball below indicates a typhoon to the South-West of the Colony,
