6. At the present time it may be asserted that all the regions where the disease is either remarkably persistent or excessively prevalent are either fishing centres or come under the influence of Roman Catholicism.

7. The success of Roman Catholic missions appears to increase very remarkably the preva- lence of leprosy; although in all other respects they may have much conduced to the well- being of the community concerned.

8. In India those who profess vegetarianism *-*- are almost wholly free, those with whom it is a matter of indifference suffer in moderata degree, and those who observe fish-eating, fast days in very remarkable excess.
