"The Chainman said that, the millenium not having yet arrived, he was afraid he could not promise they would have no competition; but he could say that they could meet competition in a form which would render it wholly un profitable to those who attempt it. The united companies had now such an enormous produc tion as to render them closely nearing the point of doing without Russian oil besides, the transport of Russian and American all was to hopeless to the East in comparison with that produced locally, that they did not fear any anxiety in view of such competition. As to the Borneo production, that had increased enon- ously during the past month. It was much more than it was in 1933, and to-day it was at the highest point it bad yet reached, the pre- sent week's returns being 4,100 tons. The directors would, of course, be pleased to entertain any sugges- tions as to a different form of balance-sheet, and in the meantime he could only say if there were any questions the shareholders desired to. ask on the accounts he would be most happy to same to the best of his ability.

That we are indebted to this possession for the position we have attained in the world of Eastern producers is anquestionable, and thus from every point of view the policy of your directors in securing and developing an East era supply has been fully justified. In the fore you, is that for the fifth year's trading of report itself we have already announced that we

THE KOETEI PROPERTY. Next in order comes the question of this company's property in Koetei. It will be apparent from the balance-sheet that the directors have taken no credit into their current account for interest upon the very large capital expended on this property, and in doing this, they are only asking the shareholders to practise a self-denying ordinance until the and of the present year, when they have every expectation that a reward will result. During the current year the production of oil in Kostel has risen from 122,600 tons in 1902 to 147,000 wise to prophesy, but when an investment of tons from Jan. 1 to date, whilst the present production is at the rate of 200,000 tons a year, to the earnings of the company, as we may so huge sum as 1,000,000 sterling contributes with, I am happy to say, a large increase in the production of light off from which we are getting 58 per cent, of kerosene, whilst we are also now succeeding, having established a market for the porduct, in getting no less than 28 per cent. of kerosene from our heavy oll, a great increase on the quantity hitherto obtained. We were fortunate enough to obtain the services of Professor Schmidt of Barle, one of the best known and most reliable geologists on oil territories, and this gentleman proceeded to Koetal to give us Independent opinion. He arrived in Koetai on Nov. 6, and Twill read you a telegram received from him on 17th inst. Louise Concession. Splendid oil bearing anticlinal to the extent of boundary

This, however, must not be taken as a pledge, but merely as an aspiration, since the accounts are no longer dependent upon the "Shell" Company, but various others with which they are allied. It will, however, I think, be satisfac tory to the shareholders to know that I am the chairman of the Asiatic Petroleum Company, and that i know our associates in it, Meurs Rothschild and the Royal Dutch Company, are
