BRITISH AND CHINESE
CORPORATION"
The report for the year ended June 30 states: -After protracted negotiations the final agree ment for the Shanghai-Nanking Railway Loan was signed on July 9 last, and a staff of engineers, selected by the Corporation's con- sulting engineers, left for China at the end of of the month, to make the final survey of the route. Arrangements for financing, construc- tion, and equipment are being proceeded with as rapidly as possible. The preliminary agree. ments which have been entered inia for the Soochow Hangchow-Vingpo Railway Loan'and Canton-Kowloon (Hongkong) Railway Loan provide that the final agreements for these rail- ways are, as far as practicable, to be run on the same terms and conditions as the final agree. ments of the Shanghai-Nanking Railway. The provision should facilitate the conclusion of finni agreements for these railway loans. An agreement has been arrived at with the Pekin Byndicate (Ltd.) for the formation of a com- pany to take over and deal with the railway interests of this Corporation and the "Fekin Syndicate north of the Yangtse. The agree ment does not include the Peking Syndicate's rillwy in Bonan and Shansi, nor does it extend to or affect the position occupied by the British and Chinese Corporation under the Northern Railway Loan Agreement. Horing operations on the Nanpiao Coalfield were re- sumed last July, and information of a very encouraging nature is being obtained. colliery expert, sent out recently in consequence of the advices received, is now on the field collecting data for the preparation of plans and estimates for laying out the intended colliery. The Imperial Chinese Railway Ad- ministration are jointly interested with the Corporation in the undertaking,
