LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE,
The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new Law Courts took place this afternoon before a large and representative gathering.". Two stands, instefully decorated with flags, plants and matting, had been erected within the enclosure surrounding the site of the future buildings for the accommodation of the privileved spectators. The news has leaked out of a small fire,
which occurred on Friday night, in the torpedo depot at Kowloon. It appears that shonly after 10 p.m., the officer in charge of the Naval men, stationed in this auxiliary yard, had his attention drawn to smoko issuing from the shed in which the electric cables are stored. He promptly investigated the matter, and discovered that a number of canvas screens, stored close to the door, had caught fire and the wooden reels upon which the cable is that the dames were rapidly spreading among
