EUROPEAN ARRESTED,

At the Magistracy this morning, before Mr. Sercombe Smith, J. Korallus, a Customs-house officer, employed at Canton, was charged with the larceny of $25 in notes, and $12.12 in silver, within the jurisdiction of the German Consul at Shamien. Defendant pleaded not guilty.

P. S. 64 deposed that at 1.30 this morning he arrested the defendant on board of the s.s. Honam by virtue of a warrant (produced).

The Defendant: From whom did I steal the money?

His Worship: That we cannot say, as we are only acting upon a telegram received here yesterday from the German Consul at Canton, asking for your arrest.

Inspector Withers then deposed that at 8 p.m. yesterday he received the following telegram from the German Consul at Canton "Sha- mien-30th inst. Inspector of Police, Bong kong. Arrest Koralius, passenger by Honam, leaves to-night for Hongkong. Prosecuted by me. (Sd). German Consul," "ag

The following interesting extract referring to railroads in the Philippines, is taken from the Evening Bulletin of Philadelphia:-

THE HUNGHON ESTABLISHMENT.

It is announced that Secretary Root is acting in conjunction with Governor. Taft in pushing forward plans for the building of six hundred miles of railroad in Luzon One of the lines contempl ted is to run from Manila to the northern end of the Island.
