We were able to put on record yesterday that the price of bar silver was the highest quotation touched since the summer of 1901. There has been a marked de- pletion in the silver reserve for some weeks past, and with India in a condition of pros perity, it is incumbent upon the Government to hold a sufficient stock of silver to redeem a considerable portion of its notes should they be presented for payment.
