OSAKA AND ITS HARBOUR WORKS.

The Mitsui Bossan Kaisha steamer Fuji an- miru, with a full cargo of raw cotton, cotton seed, and oil cake, left Shanghai on the 25th uit. for Osaka direct and she is expected to arrive at Osaka to-day or to morrow (says the Kobe Chronicle of 29h ult). This is the first large steamer to make use of the new harbour of Osaka, and it has been decided to give a reception to the Captain and the crew of the steamer at the Osaka Hotel.

The Seoul correspondent of the Orata alinichi reports that Mr. Hayashi recently requested the Government to accord the Japa nése timber company at the Yalu the same privileges that have leen given to the Passian timber company. The Corean Government replied to the Ministes on the 21st ult. stating that the permit granted to the Japanese comp any was not genuine and hence it was impossi- ble for the Government to comply with the Minister's request.

Japanese Imprisoned and Tortured.
Seoul, July 27th. The Japanese, who went to Manpuchin, where two Japanese were recently assaulted by Chinese in Russian employ, reports that Yogiotao on the Yalu was the scene of the outrage. The men who committed the assault are not mounted bandits as reported at the lime; but officials connected with a Chinese timber company, which was controlled by a Chinese Government official. The two Japanese who were assaulted were placed in custody by these Chirese ind ortuted The Japanese on renching the place demanded the delivery of these men and effected their release after con- siderable difficulty. Tantai Yuan is reluctant to admit that an official under his control took part in the affair and is working hard to effect an amicable settlement.,
