THE RISE IN SILVER IN SIAM,

TREASURY PRICE OF TICALS ADVANCED. The Bangkok Times of 22nd ult, states The Government has to-day intimated to the Banks that until further notice the Treasury selling price for Ticals will be at the rate of 18 to the pound sterling. For nearly three and a half months the rate has been 18, and although there have been no buyers at that figure, it has been considered advisable for the Government to advades its selling price in sympathy with the steady and continued upward movement of the dollar in Singapore.. Yesterday, the latter was again quoted at 15. 1od. for demand drafts-a figure cor- responding to a tical at 17 to £ according to the sliding scale brought into force soun after the Mint was closed. This arrangement has latterly been in temporary abeyance, owing to adverse trade conditions, but it is judged. that the time has now arrived for a further rise in the Government rate, and it may be hoped that the announcement will tend to still further suffen exchange in Bangkok. This has shown a slight upward tendency during the last few weeks, as compared with gold, but it is évident: that the condition of trade is not such as to bring about any immediate strong movenient in the direction of a higher tical, and hence the necessity for further action on the pan of the Government.
