The following report is from Mr. F. G. Figg. Acting Director of the Hongkong Obser

vatory :-

On the 16th at 12.20 p.m. The depression lying over Manchuria yesterday has moved Eastwards into the N. part of the Sea of Japan.

Pressure has increased considerably and is high over N. China; decreased slightly on the S. coast.

The wind will freshen from N.E. in the For- mosa Channel during the next 24 hours.. Mo- derate S.E. winds over the N. part of the China *Sea.

Forecast:-S.E. to E. wind, moderate to fresh, unserted, squally, and showery.

Telegraphic communication between the Observatory and Hongkong remains inter- rupted.

A BALL indicates a typhoon to the West- ward of the Colony, (ie, in the West quadrant, S.W. to N.W.)

A CONE.Point Upwards indicates a typhoon

to the Northward of the Colony, (ie, in

the North quadrant, N.W. to N.E.)

A CONE Point Downwards indicates a ty

phoon to the Southward of the Colony, -(, in the South quadrant, S.E. to SW).

Red Signals indicate that the centre is believ

ed to be more than 300 miles away from

the Colony.

Black Signals indicate that the centre is be

lieved to be less than goo miles away

from the Colony.

NIGHT SIGNALS.

Two lanterns hoisted vertically indicate bad weather in the Colony and that the wind

is expected to veer.

The signals are repeated on the flagstaff of the Godown Company at Kowloon, and also, by day only, at the Harbour Ofice and on H.M.'s Receiving Ship.
