ACTION FÜR SLANDER.
$2,000 DAMAGES.
A case of considerable local interest was commenced at the Supreme Comit this morn ing when Francisco d'Assis Gomes brought an action against Antonio Simplicio Gomes, junior, for damages in respect of slander, alleged to have been uttered at the Club Lusitano on the evening of the 17th September Inst. The Acting Chief Justice, the Hon. Sir H. Spencer Berkeley, presided on the bench, and the case was tried by a special jury. The Hon. E. H. Sharp, K.C., (instructed by Mr. H. W. Looker,
of Messrs. Deacon and Hastings), appeared on
behalf of the plaintiff, and Mr. M. W. Slade (instructed by Mr. E. A. Bonnar, of Messrs. Dennys and Bowley) appeared for the de- fendant.
