The only important gift to the museum during the twelve-month was a very interesting and valuable collection of the land and fresh- water shells of Hongkong and Chins, kindly presented by Dr. C. Fugitive Criminals from the Territory of each of the Malay States-Perak, Selangor, Pahang and Negri Sembilan.

AT THE DOCKS.

Work has been brisk lately, at the various premises of the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Co. When the eye, in cast along the Kowloon yard, it is seen that two of the slipways are occupied by launches in course of construction. One of these vessels is for Messrs. F. Blackhead & Co., and the other for the Pacific and Oriental S. N. Co. Two new lighters have been ordered for the Norddeuts eher Lloyd, and are well under way. The new work comes with a great reputation from London, where it occupied the boards of Wyndham's Teatre for sixteen consecutive months.
