these it appears that measures have been adopt. ed against this port by Shanghai, Manila, Singapore, Indo-China, Saigon, Lisbon, Bang- kok, and Foochaw, while Hongkong requires medical examination (followed by quarantine at the discretion of the Health Officer) of arrivals from Shanghai, Manila, Macao, Pakhoi, Amoy, Tientsin, Tongku and Taku.

KING EDWARD'S COLLEGE:÷We hear that a new school is now in process of establish ment in Singapore: the embryo institution is to be known as the "King Edward's College," says the Straits Times: "It is Intended to conduct the school on somewhat different lines to anything at present obtaining in the Colony, and the fees are to be a little higher than those of any of the other schools here. Education at King Edward's College” will be restricted to European and Chinese children. The scheme is yet in its infancy, and further information will no doubt come out later.

We are constantly being charged 12 cents for deficient postage. It is very anomalous. If French and German letters can be carried without extra charge, even though the postage on such letters does not actually amount to ten cents, why should not.British letters be carried free as well? The next thing will be to agitate for the opening of a British Post Office in the Consulate here. And why shouldn't we have one!
