From the vancouver Daily News Advertiser of the 5th June we take the fallowing items
The R.M.S. Empress of Japan, Commander H. Pybus, arrive 1 in port on Tuesday afternoon (June 4th) from the Orient, after an exception. ally quick trip across the Pacific, in which she experienced excellent weather. She had a grand total of 781 passengers, including Chi nese and the Coronation troops from Hong Kong. While at dock off Victoria, she narrow, ly escaped a serious accident. The Japanese Liner Shinano Maru, of the Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line, fouled her while the former was entering the dock. The Japanese Liner struck the Empress on the side, and besides smashing a boat on the C. P. R. Liner, damaged her below the water line. The Shinano was also. damaged she was libeled for $4,000 by Messrs. Drake, Jackson & Helmcken, on be half of the Canadian Pacific Railway, but was released on bonds and proceeded on her trip, Bodwell & Duff, acting as attorneys for the
Great Northern Railway, furnished security for
the Shinano Maru,
The passengers arriving on the Empress of Japon included General Fukushima, who com manded the Japanese troops in the Japanese Chinese, War, and who took a prominent part Þin the siege of Peking, and is also noted for his travels in Thibet. The General dined at the Japanese Consulate last evening; he is on route to New York and England, to join Prince Komatsu, the Japanese Envoy to the British Coronation..

THE INSPECTION
Maj General Sir Charles Parsons arrived at the Drill Hall, accompanied by Colonel Holmes, D. O. C, and his A D. To receive him the Sixth D. CO. Rifles were drawn up in line formation, with sections of the Corona- tion Contingent on each flank, forming a hql- low, square, Colonel Worsnop in command The general salute was given upon the Gep eral's arrival, after which an inspection of the parade was made.
