Passengers holding Orders for OVERLAND CITIES in the United States have between SANFRANCISCO and CHICAGO, the option of the SOUTHERN PACIFIC, CENTRAL PACIFIC, UNION PACIFIC, DENVER and RIO GRANDE, and other direct connecting Railways, and froin Chicago to destination the choice of direct lines.
Special rates (First-class only) to European Points, are granted to Missionaries, Members of the Naval, Military, Diplomatic and Consular Services, and European Civil Service Officials located in Asia, and to European Officials in the Service of the Govements of China and Japan,

The following is the report for presentation 10 shareholders at the fifteenth ordinary noqual meeting, to be held at the Company's Office, No. 2, Connaught Road, at noon, Thunday, the Twentieth day of March, 1901

The gross revenue derived from Wharfage, Landing, &c. amounted to $809,833.30 cas |against $768,593:31 the previous year, shewing an increase of $41,229.99 and the profit on working was $242759.02 as, compared with $339.585.49 in 1900, being an increase of $3,173.62.
The balance at credit of Profit and Loss account, after paying interim dividend of 5 % including premium on shares sold and. $22,063.07 brought forward from last year, is $149,028. aa which it is proposed to appropriate

„BUSINESS.
Nothing of an exceptional natura' occurred' during the year in connection with the Com pany's business nor was there any marked in crease of imports after settlement of the troubles in North China. Stocks throughout the year were restricted and still remain so,
CAPITAL. The 314 shares of new captial not taken up were forfeited and cold.....
BUILDINGS.
The two storeyed godown on K.-M. L; 23 and 6 houses on K. M. L. 415 referred to in last report were completed and the 22 Chincse houses are well advanced."
LIGHTERS.
Eight new open boats have been built, bring ing the number up to 4 decked and 37 open; boats having an aggregate tonnage of 4850 tons which is sufficient for present requirementà.
LAUNCHES
A small pinnace, the Pelican for ranning lines and light towing was built and is doing useful work.
MACHINERY AND PLANT.
Seven steam cranes and hoists were acquired for hoisting goods to the upper storeys of new godowns and for the rapid loading and dis-. charging of lighters.
DIRECTORS.
Messrs. P. Sachse, J. A. Mackay, A. M. Marshall and P. Witkowski having resigned, their places were taken respectively by Messrs. E. M. H. Schubart, C. H. Thompson, H. A. Ritchie and E Goetz - Mr. H.; A. Ritchie having resigned on, leaving the Colony his place has been taken by Mr. E. A. Hewett These appointments require confirmation.
Messrs. D. M. Muses and G. H. Medhurst retire in rotation, according to the Articles of Association, but being eligible offer themselves for re-election.
LAS AUDITORS.;
Messrs. W. H:' Potts and A. O'D. Gourdin (the latter in place of Mr. F. Henderoon) have audited the accounts now presented and offer themselves for re-election.

As briefly reported in a recent issue of this paper a big fire recently broke out on the north bank of the river, below the long bridge" at Foochow. It commenced about 8 o'clock in the evening and, according to the local journal, is said to have been caused by some accident in a small native Kerosine oil store. Be that as it may the timber yard close by was quickly in flames, and the fire spread with such rapidity from stack to stack of dry poles that in a couple of hours the conflagration was appalling.
