A director of Marconi's Gompany says no one who has followed Marconi in has ex, periments has suggested that signals were not. received, but it is said that they did not come from Comwall. The absurdity of this con. tention will be realised when it is known that for three hours on two successive days one letter was continuously sent and received If a tape marked by atmospheric signals is examined, combinations of dots and dashes, representing.certain letters may be found. The same combinations will not, however, be found repeated, and the general appearance of the tape is that of blured dots and dashes, in no order which could represent a particular letter.

On the other hand, when the same letter of the alphabet is telegraphed over and over again, not only is the same combination of dots and Narjamot, Khan, 1.P.C. dashas repeated quite distinctly, but between Nam Singh

PERFORMANCES AT NIAGARA.

The recent remarkable feat of Mrs. Anna E. Taylor, of Bay City, in going over the Horse- shoe Falls of Niagara in a barrel, recalls other thrilling experiences and performance at Nia- gara. The following instances of this kind are taken from the "Niagara Book," by W. D. Howells, Mark Twain, Professor Nathaniel S. Shuster, and others, collected in a chapter en- titled. "Dramatic. Incidents," Witten by Orrin E. Dunlap:

During the final twenty years of the lat century, says Mr. Dunlap, the efforts to at tion notoriety through some Niagara fent were perhaps more frequent than ever before, but as' far back as 1827 Niagra was recognised as an

ideal place where great crowds might be assembled by thrilling incidents. About the first feature of this character was the-sendjug of the pirate Michigan over the falls on the afternoon of September 8, 1815. Dressed as a pirate, she was loaded with wild and tame anirnals, and with a crew in effigy, was towed to the foot of Navy Island and set adrift. She was caught by the currant and burld through the upper rapids and over tha Horseshoe Falls It was never recorded that any of the animals were recaptured to be sent to the museums in New York, Montreal, and London, as was the intention, Conches left Buffalo on the after- ngon of the 7th of September to accomodate the crowds, and all of the Niagara hotels were ull of guests.

Among the crowd drawn to the falla by this incident was Sam Patch, a man who hat won fame at Pawtucket Falls and other eastern. points as a high jumper. He erected plat form at the water's edge of the debris slope, jrast porth of the Biddle Stairs, and from this
