OUR LONDON LETTER.

(Frost oueron Correspondent)

LONDON, January reth. ROYAL VISIT TO INDIA. The rumour that the Prince of Wales will visit India immediately after the Coronation festivities are concluded, and in time to take part in the celebrations of our great dependency, has gained ground all this week. Although as yet no actually official announcement has been made I have little doubt that the Fress reports are true, at least up to this point, that unless some unforeseen political complication ensue in the meantime the Prince will visit India some time this year. That the decision is wise no one can doubt. In the tour of his father's early manhood, the Prince has the best possible precedent; while in the success of the recent Colonial trip he has an assurance of Imperial service in his own person which is even more valuable,

It is likely that such a visit would be of considerable importance in welding India into, 10,750.00 more complete harmony with the rest of the Empire; ip setting a new seal of loyalty upon the fealty of the native princes, and in establish- The Directors recommend that a dividending that personal relation which counts for so A COMING MARRIAGE-It is reported for the half-year of 10% or $250,000, and a bonus much in the East People about the Court un-, that Miss Frances Collingbourne, late of the of 8% or $200,000, in all $450,000 be paid to the nimously assert that if is Royal Higliness Gaiety and Daly's Theatres, where she played Shareholders, bonuses of $20,000 to Contribut goes to India at all, which they treat, in duty the leading part in "San Toy," is now on hering Shareholders, and $25,000 to the European bound as still an open question, it will not way to Hongkong to wed an officer of the

In another years' time therefore Hongkong will have, with the West Indies, the unfortunate distinction of being the only Colony unvisited by Britain's future king. This travel throughout the Empire cannot but be of very great service to the Prince of Wales in preparing him for his further respon sibilities; and though there are as usual to be found individuals of a certain class, who scoff at any such assertion, there is no doubt that
