TURKISH LOTTERY.
HANDSOME PRIZES FOR THE PRESS.
A State lottery has been organised in Turkey to enable the Sultan to raise funds for the con struction of the Mecca Railway. Each ticket will cost 400 piastres, and the chief prize to be two million and a half plastres. The company is to receive 10 per cent. from all prizes wgn, s per cent. interest on the invested capital, and, | after deducting ¿Taq,000 for working exponese,, the remainder of the net profit is to be divided between the company and the Mecca Railway,, for which, moreover, the company pays down the substantial sum of two million plastres-on 'the signing of its concession, as a free gift to please the Sultan. The promoters demand, as a condition of their future success, that the Turkish Government should induce every newspaper appearing in Turkey to write of the
new State lottery in favourable terms, in return'
for which they will place a fixed sum yearly at the disposal of the Turkish Press Bureau, to be distributed amongst Turkish newspapers as a reward for recommending the lottery in editoria! and advertisement columns!
