DEPARTURE OF H. E. THE GOVERNOR.

GOOD WISHES FROM THE COLONY,"

H. E. the Governur left the Colony this morning for a well earned holiday in England. and the foreign and native communities bade himi farewell and don woyuge in a hearty, if not a very enthusiastic manner. Everyone of any repute, and many of no repute, were present in the vicinity of the Blake Pier to see Sir Henry leave, and though there was a noti cable lack of any cheering the good wishes of all for a pleasant holiday and a safe remum were made manifest. Civil and military officers, the principal European and Chinese residents were present, together with the usual multitude of weary coolies resting from their toil.

́About eleven o'clock a detachment of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, headed by their band the inevitable pet gout, and the Regimental colours marched up from barracks and fronted facing the Blake Pier. People soon began to', collect and the prominent European and Chinese residents waited by the side of the approach to the pier. It was not, however, before a quarter past eleven, that, Sir Henry was due and the spectators.passed away the few minutes to spare in chatting upon things in general and nothing in particular., H.E. Major-General Sir W. J. Gascoigne was there in his smart uniform. and several other officers of rank were waiting the arrival of His Excellency. At sixteen minutes past eleven Sir Henry alighted from his chair, which bad bren escorted from Govern. ment House by a detachment of the Indian Folice in charge of Sergt. Garrard. The men in scarlet

This finished he raised his hat to all and, turning mound, walked along the pier accompanied by his son, Lieut. Blake, Hon. J. Stewart Lockhart (Colonial Secretary), and Mr. B. F. Johnson (Private Secretary to His Excel" lency). They went on board of the Govern ment House launch, and immediately that her propellers began revolving a signaller on the pier telegraphed to H.M.S. Glory and guns boomed out across the harbour. The launched headed away to the P. and O., steamship Valette (and the party west aboard for a few minutes; but before noon she left the barbour with H. E. the Governor as a passenger for Marseilles, where he will continue the journey to England overland The R.W.Fs formed fours and marched away to a lively strain leaving the crowd to disperse and H.E. Major General Sir W. I. Gascoigne to assome Tommand as Governor of the Colony of Hongkong.

The following was issued this afternoon as a Gasele extraordinary

The Nam Hoi and the Pan u magistrates have petitioned the Viceroy to have a building erected in which prisoners shall be given em- ployment and taught trades.
