received visits from many of his friends on the 19th inst. We conferred, a large and luminous halo on the old gentleman the other evening under the impression that he was defunct, and it seems rather a pity that he has not chosen to remain dead, because he may do something or other to forfeit our good opinion before he dies agah, and we would prefer that he should shußle off this mortal coil while he has a clean record.

SOME UNFAIR RUMOURS have been circulating concerning Prince Chun, says the L and C. Express. It was said that the Prince, when leaving Bale, in Switzerland, had forgotten to pay his hotel expenses. The director of the hotel, however, Mr. Blecher, has energetically contradicted this statement. It appears that the Imperial Chinese diplomat bad left Bale at
o'clock at night when the banks were closed, but the next day everything was squared by the telegraphic order of Prince Chun, who, during the whole of his stay in Germany, behayed with perfect propriety. Mr. Blecher, in his declaration, adds that many a European Prince might do well to take an example from the Chinese Prince and his followers.
