P

CONCERT AT THE CIVILIAN' CLUB.

One of the best concerts held this season took

place at the Civilian Club on Saturday evening. The spacious rooms were comfortably filled by between 60 and 70 members and visitors, and every attention was paid to their comfort. With regard to the manner in which visitors te treated, we would warn all young beginners against the hospitality of the Club. As Bret Harte would say it is "frequent and free" and the members vie with each other on insisting on" each visitor having a good time. The arrangements had been, more or less, left in the hands of a very well-known member of the Committee who, with his experience in this line, had left no detail unattended to. As usual

·Hong-ong's ideal Chairman conducted the proceedings, and by a combination of tact and firmness materially helped to make the function the success it was, For want of space we are usable to notice fully everyone. who con tributed a song, recitation or dance, but it wis one of the strangest programmes we have seen. The names of Sergt's Ward, Viggers, Simmers, French and Burnett together with Mess Oxberry, Aldridge, Ley Kum and others will show the chief of the local talent were present, Everyone seemed to be in good voice, particular. ly Sergt. Siminers who we have never heard sing better. Sergt. French's songs were splendidly delivered and Mr. Oxberry singing with good taste pleased everybody.. A comical little gentleman named Aldridge carried off the honours in the humorous line and fairly con vulsed the audience with his laughing song. Sergt. Mephan was the accompanist and well deserved the vote of thanks awarded him. The toast of the visitors, proposed by the chairman with musical honours, brought an entertainment that was a credit to the Club to A close.
