'OQEANIO” 'COLLIDES
WITH SHIP.
SHIP TURNS TURTLE, AND SEVEN LIVES ARE LOSE,"
The White Star liner Oceanic with probably 1,500 souls on board, left Liverpool landing stage on the 7th ult, says the Morning Leader, and crossed the Liverpool bar about half-past- six. There were over a thousand passengers 'on board, many of whom were some of tha wealthiest citizens of America and professional men by the score.
The wind blew fresh from the westward, and all went well until the Irish coast, in the vicinity of the pskar, was reached at about midnight, when a thick fog was encountered The passengers had all retired, and all was reported well on board.
About e je o'clock a noise of a jarring nature was heard. It was a crunching noise, but not. alarming. It was, however, sufficient to cause hundreds of passengers to come trooping through the corridors and up on deck in breath less excitement, to know what had happened.
A fear-inspiring spectacle met their gaze, for the Oceanic was then locked in the Water ford and Limerick steamship Kincora. The latter was caught on the Oceanic's stern, which, appeared to be at least 15ft. in the Kincora's side, near the after batch, abait the engine room Her master, officers, and crew were on deck.
BOATS TO THE RESCUE.
Efforts were made to get the Kinzera's boats clear, but they were unsuccessful. Meanwhile,
the Oceanic launched two life boats, and they were quickly manned and ready to help. Fourteen of the Kintera's crew clambered on
board the Oceanic by her side ropes, or were dragged on board by the crew of the liner,
In about ten minutes from the time the colli- sion ocurred the Kincora turned somersault
and went down stem foremost, carrying seven of her crew with her. The Oceanic stood by until daylight, but no trace of the missing men could be found, and she resumed her passage to Queenstown.
"
On examination at that port a slight indenta tion on her part bow was all that was found. and after several hours' delay she resumed her passage to New York at three o'clock.
BOTH GOING DEAD SLOW.
The survivors say that the Occonic was not
quite reo yards from them when sighted. She was going dead slow. So was the Kincora The collision occured in a dense fog about teh miles south of the Barrels Light-hip
When she was seen through the fog she
looked to be three times her actual size.

Four men were seen on the Kingera's fore. castle head just before she went down, and the men in No. 2 lifebout urged them to jump overboard. They did not, and, a few minutes after they were carried down in the whirlpool.
HEROISM OF.A PIREMAN.
One hundred and sixty pounds was quickly subscribed amongst the passengers for the families of those who were lost, one of whom, George Collins, of Limerick, fireman, ran down below at the last moment to take steps to prevent the boilers from bursting, and lost his life, in the attempt.
Several of the mens saved were practically
