The American troops have pushed the cam paign with great energy and success for the Last month or so, and have given the wily Insurgent no time or opportunity for rest, and to be deprived of this is hardly in keeping with the Filipino character.
The cutting off of their food supplies and the anceremonious manner in which they have been kept busy dodging Americans day and night have been sufficient to cause a dissension of feeling in Malvar's ranks, and consequently many desertions of soldiers and surrenders to the Americans have followed.

The Federal Party has its emissaries in the field and they bave succeeded in persuading a number to come in with all their forces. Among the late arrivals are: Major Farol, Captains Rafino and Leopoldo Cauin and Lieut. Abdon with their men and arms.
MRS. KRUGER'S DEATH AND THE DURATION OF THE WAR.
(AMERICAN MAIL CABLE}
NEW YORK, July 21st
A cable to the Tribune from London says? The death of Mrs. Kruger may have some influence in shortening the_war. Kruger himself has been reported to be exceedingly despondent over the military operations, and the correspondence between Reizt and Steyn has justified his discouragement. His domestic bereavement may cause hint to lose heart for continuing the hopeless struggle. His Dutch physicians have been warning him for months against the consequences of exclement, since his heart action is abnormally weak.
A story is brought by influential South Africans that Commandant-General Botha was I strongly disposed to surrender but did not consider himself at liberty to do so against the judgment of Kruger. General Botha has a family to provide for and is poor and without resources. South Africans assert he is depen- dent upon allowances which Kruger has agreed to make for him if he continues the struggle so long as possible.,

LORD KITCHENER'S REPORT ON Caron, LG.
THE VLAKFONTEIN OUTRAGES.
CANADIAN MAIL CABLE.]
LONDON, July 26th. The Daily Mail publishes Lord Kitchener's official report regarding the Vlaakfontein affair, which is as follows:-
"Lieutenant W. S. B. Duff, has given me the following. On the day after the fight at Vlankfontein, May 29th, Lieutenant Hearn told him that while lying on the ground wounded, he say about 20 yards from him Lieutenant Spring, and Sergeant Findlay both slightly wounded. They were binding up each other's wounds, when a young Boer with a pink puggaree around his hat, came up and shot both dead. ・・・・
"Lieutenant Hearn, lay-quite still, The Boers, thinking him dead contented themselves with taking his purse and leggings. Lieutenant Heam also said that others of our wounded were shot by Boers,
"Lieutenant Duff collected this testimony of eight privates and non-commissioned officers- who affirmed that they saw Boers shoot our wounded.
Several of the men saw a Boer, evidently some one in authority, trying to stop his men from shooting our wounded."
The foregoing is taken from Lord Kitchener's report on the subject. He has added that he. would supplement it by sworn testimony.
