CHINESE CHOIR IN NEW YORK.
Tribune says:-
THE HONGKONG TELEGRAPH, THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 1901,
amid the cheers of his compatriots, that many copies of the newspaper had been sent to the United States and the Continent. Of course St. Bartholomews Church in New York, has,
we know what that means. The lies against it appears, a Choir of Chinese. The New York the King like those in favour of the Boers, will be firmly believed by the foreign friends "At a meeting which took place in the Sunday school rooms of St. George's Church, of their generous and warm-hearte authors a Chinese tea merchant suggested that much and backers. There was much excitement in good could be done and many worthy people the crowded House while the discussion went could be assisted if the, Christian Chinese of. It was greatest when Mr. Balfour touched New York had a meeting place, The subject the sore spot on the Irish skin. Mr. Redmond received the cnsideration of Dr. David 1. had spoken solemnly of a new agitation in Ireland. Was the publication of obscene Greer, and not long after the scheme bad bi en
libel a necessary weapon in the armoury of the Buggested a suite of rooms was rented for the
new agitation?" asked Mr. Balfour, his sup- Chinese Guild at No. 23 St. Mark' Place. There were two hundred members of the or- porters cheering enthusiastically. "You know well it is not," replied Corinianus, while his ranization, only a few of whom were Christians.

MacNeill foamed at the mouth. Then," per its headquarters, in the shape of gymnasium, sisted Mr. Balfour, why does this leading school, dining room, and lounging-roomi. The object of the guild was mutual benefit newspaper, the organ of the United Irish Chinese who were molested by their neigh. League, use the vile, obscene weapon? Why, indeed? The Irish could only answer by yell- bours or by mischievous people came to the guik! for protection; others who feared that They went to division and were beaten tradesmen would get the better of them in by 252 to 64, and now they may rest assured that, as their vilification of ibis country in con- business laid their woes before, the guild, and
nection with the war has disgusted many British the place became a sort of bure of informa tion and court of justice. Guy Mains, who was King will estrange more.
Home Rulers, so their foul anersions on the Whom the gods the originator of the guild; and who has been nt its head ever since that 'time, took steps early in its history to make it a religious centre also, and besides devoting time to helping his coun trymen out of trouble he founded a. Sunday school, which, has made good progress.
The guild removed from its first home to the Chinese quarter m the sixth year of its exist ence, but remained there only a short time, and then, na the completion of St. Bartholey muw's Parish House, inak possession of the rooms which it now occupies. The member ship now numbers alantsthree hundred, of' whom thirty are 'hristies. Sixteen of these are communicants of St. Bentyolomew's hurelt. The Sunday-school services in the parish-house are attesied by abou one hundred persons every week, only one of whom is a avouan.

The First Lord of the Admiralty and four of his predecessors had a debite all themsekes in the House of Peers this evening, and the resuit was unpleasapi bar Me, Brodyrk and his plan of handing live coling stations to lin Admiralty. Quite a family party gathered in the gilded Chamber, with My Arnold-Forster hit upright and solitary at the bar, while Sir U. Kay Shuttleworth sat on the steps of the throne, his knees lövel with his shoulders. The Earl of Roseliery was present, just returned from the Mediterranean, like the Earl of Sel bore. As questions of national defence always interest him, he stayed throughout the discus sion, impatient only of sameness of position, to escape which he sometimes sat with hands clasped over his head, and sometimes leaned far enough back to look straight up at the ceil- ing. Mr. Brodrick's hurts were of various kinds. Lords Spencer. Goshen, Northbrook, and Ripon attacked the war Secretary's transfer scheme, and, worst of all, the First Lord, after saying that the Admiralty were thinking about it, declared that the Navy could not spare man to garrison coaling stations. If that is so, the Admiralty's thinking is superfluous.
This was not the white of poor air. Brodrick's trouble. He was scolded for having told the story of his little plan to the Commons before getting the consent of the Admiralty. Earl Spencer, an amable orator, with fine turn for rambling and unism, first took the culprit in band; but the severest smacking was given by Viscount Goschen, moved by the reflection that important Ministerial utterances should only be in ide on the responsibility of the whole Cabinet. Two conclusions may be drawn from the discussion. One is that Secretary for WarFoot, Capt. F. will probably be sorry he spoke ; the other, that the Adosi alty will take charge of no cualing stations unless Parliament votes it men for the purpose.
It has been my repulsive task to read the shocking article in which the Irish People, organ of the United Irish League, bespattered; the King with Gith, an article for which the Dublin police seized as many copies as they could find yesterday, thereby awakening the wrath of the Nationalists, and prompting them to move the adjournment of the Huuse of om. monsthis evening. I assume in charity that they had not read the filthy thing; otherwise, shame would have prevented them from complainingt of the action of the police. Their references in
reflections upon the Sovereign by English newspapers are utterly misleading. No journal, not even the French last year ever poured such a torrent of sewage upon an English monarch as the Irish People discharged yesterday. Its least offence is the application of the lying phrase," a perjured witness," to a King admired and loved for his kindness, uprightness, and good sense whereever he is known. The real of the charges in this organ of the United Irish League are too obscene to be repeated. It was impossible even to quota them to the Honsa. Surely the Nationalists did not reckon on that fact when they abused the Government for the seizure? If they had done so their conduct would have been as cowardly as that of the newspaper, which knew well that the King could not defend himself from its shower

Mr. Dillon was the man who moved the adjournment about a dozen Liberals helping to make the forty members necessary to that course. The Opposition lenders, however, and the great majority of their followers at as tight as the party opposite, stiffened, no doubt by some knowledge of the outrage committed by the Irish People. When the member for East. Mayo described his theme as an urgent matter of public importance one or two linisterialists laughed scornfully, whereupon the explosive MacNeill, under a full head of steam as usual, gasped "Who's that? Who's chat ?". Mr. Dillon, much cooler but most melancholy, calmed him by placing a hand on his shoulder and then accused the Irish Government of legality, Illegality, quotha! If Mr. Dillon's journalistic friends had been in Cermany they would have had reason to think enviously of the ways of their own rulers. He admitted that the frisk People was one of the most im- portant and influential papers in the country, a. fact which should be remembered when the traducers of our soldiers and calumniators of our beloved King claim to be a waria-hearted and generous people. The wily Dillon Ahmed Been, 1.P.C. Johnson, C. E.. "declined to be drawn into a discussion upon the language" of the newspaper. He acted prudently. His flimsy complaint of illegality would have shrivelled like a cobweb in fire.
As Mr. Wyndham said, the obscenity of the 'Buta Singh' fanguage was the strength' of the Government Bova and Co, Supt. case and the reason why he had ordered the
Brewery.. seizure of the gutter paper: "Of course his Burkeh, Alli Khan, frankness will add to the hostility with which,L.P.C. 816 the pathriots regard him; but af their object Brimble, Capt. A. has always been to make the Chief Secretary Bortolo, B. miserable, even when his name is John Morley, Bobal Singh. mwon't mind. Coriolanus Redmond sxplained,
