A DEARTH OF DOCTORS.. TO THE EDITOR.Or the “Hongkong' Telegraph,”.
DEAR SIR,-You were quite right to call attention to the shocking manner in which our Medical Department is at present undermanned and, for the matter of that, always has been, It certainly speaks very well for our overwork- ed doctors when one considers what splendid attention one receives at the Government Civil -Hosital, but is it well to work the willing horse to death? for one, would like in see the medical staff at least doubled so that those who have to care for our welfare when we are help..

Then too, it must not be forgotten that our Hospital here should be a centre for the spread of knowledge of tropical diseases. True, a certain number of cases are quoted in the Annual Report of the Principal Medical Officer, but I think that were the staff increased the officer in question would have much more, leisure for scientific investigation than he has, at present. I hear, also, though I am not able to speak from my own knowledge, that the
