We learn, says the China Garelle, that the N.Y.K. will shortly put six magnificent new steamers of the Kaça-mara type upon the Hongkong Shanghai-Scattle route. They are now being built and will be completed during the year. The service will then be made a fortnightly instead of a monthly one. With six 18 knot steamers of this fine type the NY.K. will shake up the now somewhat antiquated and slow-going C.P.R. Boats.
SURELY something could be done to prevent the assembling of gaping crowds whenever a plague case is being removed from a house or the place is being disinfected. The Chinese crowd round, jostling one another and the inimates of the infected house, and if the place is being cleansed and a lot of filth thrown into the street, coolies are often to be seen picking it over, and this must aid the spread of infection. Cannot the police take some action in the
matter?
