THE BELLE OF NEW YORK,
New York" was viven by Mr. Henry Dallas's A very successful production of the "Belle of Musical Comedy Company at the Theatre Royat last night. Following the staging of "San Toy" on the previous three nights, a tremendous rush for seals was seen for "The Belle" and all accommodation was quickly snapped up..
The opening scene on the raising of the car tain displayed the spendthrift with his friends celebrating his twenty-first birthday in a very hilarious manner. Towards the close of the celebrations young Bronson forgot himself so "jubilare" with glass in hand. Mr. Godwin made a first class "drunksh" and the song "hoosey" was cleverly dismissed by the chorus of reveilers.

It is very satisfactory to know that the two men who attacked Mr. ESROM on the Bowen Road the other day and robbed him of his watch and chain have received an exemplary sentence of six years' hard labour coupled with a flogging. Would it not be better to exhibif prisoners of this description in the stocks for a few hours each month, with a notice board set ting forth their crime and punishment? WATKINS, LIMITED.
The second ordinary annual meeting of shareholders in the above Company was held at the Company's Office, Queen's Road, at noon to-day, Tuesday, the 19th March, 1901, for the purpose of receiving the report of the General Managers, with a Statement of Ac- counts, to the 31st December, 1900.
Mr. G. A. Watkins, occupied the chair and there were also present Messrs. Chan A Fook, E. J. Grist, W. Mounsey, Major Brown, W. H. Gaskell, T. H. Reid, Chon Han Wah and Chu Ching Sien."
The Chairman said Gentlemen, the report and statement of accounts having been in your hands for some days, we will with your permis sion take them as read. It affords your General Managers pleasure to be able to place before you a report, which may be justly considered highly satisfactory in every respect. This has been due in a great measure to the improved efficiency of our establishment, which has recently been augmented by the introduction ofnew Aerated Water Plant of the most modern disposed of some of our goods which took type, and to the fact that we advantageously. up to Tientsin when the place was in a state of siege. You will observe from the statement before you, the amount available for appropria tion, after writing off $1,737.86 from the value of Stean-launch, Fixtures, Fittings, and Book Debts, and including $7,022.43 brought forward from last year's account, is $25,544-54. Your General Managers recommend that a dividend of 12 per cent be paid to shareholders, which will absorb $12,000,00, carrying the balance of $13.544.54 10.a Reserve Fund, which Fund will be available to meet contingencies and forequa lizing dividends. Among the assets in the Ba lance Sheet you will notice an item of $11,771,56 This sum represents the nominal value of goods consigned to the Narth, but not realized sold at very favourable rates as opponunity on 31st December, 1900. The goods are being offers, the profit on same will, of course, come into the account for 1901. Should we see fit, and provided that it in no way cripples our cash account, we may pay to the shareholders an interim dividend, say next July ar August. I should not, however, Gentlemen, wish you to look on any interim dividend we may pay to shareholders, as a thing to be looked for yearly, but to be regarded as an exception to the general rule. In a business such as the one we are carrying on, it is very necessary. for us to have cash assets, and if the cash assets were denuded by the payment of abnor- mal dividends, the business would suffer, our capital being small. Most of the figures in the accounts speak forthemselves. Before proposing the adoption of the Report and passing the statement of accounts, should any shareholder wish further information, I shall be happy to sive it.
Mr. Mounséy-There is one question which I should like to ask. Can you tell me what were the profits made by the Hongkong busi ness last year.. Was, it $15,000?
