The opening rendering of "Tannhauser" was simply exquisite and delighted the audience. The performance by this highclass band all through was of the highest order and gave general.pleasure. The solos were very effec- tively given and Mrs. Mudie's pleasant voice was listened to by all with rapturous delight. The programme was rendered perfectly throughout and it was only regretted that the concert had to close as early as it did.

YESTERDAY'S ORGAN RECITAL, Yesterday afternoon the second of Mr. Grimble's organ recitals took place at the Union Church, and long before the advertised hour the Church was crowded. It was a matter of much regret that Mrs. Fullerton was unable to appear, but her place was well filed by Mrs. Mudic.

This is what the N. G. Daily Netos says of the performance of Florodora

Another crowded house; again the Dallas, Company rose to the occasion, and again deliglued the audience. First Mr. Dallas gave us the "Geisha" which was excellent; then came "A Runaway Girl-good, but not on a Fear with the "Geisha." Next we had the

Belle of New York" which, in the opinion of many, was the best that Mr. Dalias had yet given us, and now we have "Floradora," na to which there can only to one opinion-it is, delightful. One can hardly speak too highly of it. The plot is thin, but what matters that in a musical comedy when music is of the best, the mounting good, the acting delight- ful, and the dialogue witty? Surely that is sufficient. The scene is laid in an imaginary island, Floradora by naine, which is supposed to be one of the Philippines-to know that is to know that the scenery and costumes are certain to be picturesque. "Floradora" is a musical treat, and those who arrived last night too late for the opening chorus, "Flowers a-blooming so gay paid the penalty in missing one of the musical treats which "Florodora" had in store, though it must be acknowledged that the reat gem of the play, in that respect, was the Finale to the first Act. The songs that followed were quite equal to what the opening chorus had led us to expect. Miss Evelyne da Worms as Dolores, the heroine, was as charming as ever, The first item was the "Wedding March especially in her renderings of Dearis! (Mendelssohn) by the string band of the Dearie and the "Queen of the Philippine German Flagship Mansa, very kindly lent by Isles." In "A Runaway Girl Miss Let." Admiral Kirchoff, accompanied by Mrtie Peel bad given us an idea of what wa Grimble on the organ. This beautiful and might expect from her, and last night she well known march was magnificently rendered excelled herself. Fler whistling song, and..

ciated and earned the applause which they deserved. Miss May Norton is already a favourite with the Shanghal public, and added still farther to her reputation by the manner in which she gave her songs; amongst others, "I've an Inkling," and "When I leave Town.". The principal male part is that of Anthony. Tweedlepunch, in which Mr. Dallas was seen at his best. His every appearance on the stage was the signal for rounds of applause and roars of laughter. As Cyrus Gilfain, Then should have followed a soprano solo, Mr. Harold Goldwin was equally as success- "My Heart Ever Faithful Sing Praises" ful as he had been in the "Belle of New

Mr. E. Mirow, whose voice, we think, is far too seldom heard in Hongkong, 'sang the tenor Solo Then shall the Righteous Shine Forth," from Mendelssohn's "Elijah." His sweet clear voice filled the whole building and his solo was a great musical treat. The next item was Mendelssohn's Sonata No. 6 (On the Chorale Vater unser im Himmelreich) in which Mr. Grimble fully displayed his wonderful com- mand of the organ.
